Short term visa

The Schengen Area is an area comprising 26 European states that have officially abolished passport and all other types of border control at their mutual borders. The area mostly functions as a single jurisdiction for international travel purposes, with a common visa policy.

There are different types of Schengen visa. What kind of visa you need depends on the purpose of your stay.

  • Uniform Schengen Visa: This visa is issued by one of the Schengen Member States and allows the applicant to travel to, stay and transit the Schengen Member States for a certain period of time. The maximum of this period of time is 90 days. With a single-entry visa, you have to use those days continuously. With a multiple-entry visa, you can use these 90 day in a period of 180 days starting from the day of your first entry.
  • Limited territorial validity Visa: This visa permits only the travel to the Schengen Member State that has issued the visa. If you wish to travel to other specific Schengen Member States you have to mention this when applying for the visa.
  • A National Visa can be given to applications to intend to stay longer than three months in a Schengen Member State for purposes of studying, work, family reunification and more.

Medical treatment visa

Those who require a visa to enter Germany as a tourist must also apply for a visa if they wish to travel to Germany for medical treatment. As a rule, applicants must submit visa applications in person at the German mission responsible for their place of residence. A decision on a visa application for a short stay usually takes between two and ten working days. In urgent cases, a medical institution is able to issue a letter to fast-track the visa application.
